Virginia Beach in the summer is a magical place. Stars & Stripes Explosion

On July 4th, the Stars and Stripes Explosion takes over Virginia Beach with multiple oceanfront states with live music performances and, of course, an evening fireworks display. The live performances will take place on the beach at 24th Street, 17th Street Park, and 31st Street Park. The festivities start at 7 p.m. and the fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.

Chalk the Walk ARTsplosion

The Chalk the Walk ARTspolsion takes over the Virginia Beach Boardwalk between 15th Street and 17th Street on July 6. This fun event gathers roughly 200 competitors to show their artistic talents, which will be evaluated by a panel of judges and eligible for prizes. The theme of this year’s event is “A Big, Beautiful World.”

Symphony By the Sea Concert Series

Symphony By the Sea has been a staple in the Virginia Beach community for nearly a decade. Located in 31st Street Park at the Virginia Beach oceanfront, the concert series starts July 11 and goes until September 5. All concerts are free to attend. Arrive early to reserve your spot for the show.

Coastal Craft Beer Festival

The Coastal Craft Beer Festival takes place at Neptune’s Park on August 24 for a full day of local and rare beer tastings. You can sample more than 65 beers from 30 different breweries while enjoying live music, food trucks, and more. Purchase your ticket and receive a commemorative tasting glass.

East Coast Surfing Competition

In its 57th year, the annual East Coast Surfing Competition takes over Virginia Beach. Several hundred professional and amateur surfers compete for surfing titles and prizes. In addition to the main event, the ECSC also includes live music, volleyball, a boardwalk 5K run, and skate and ramp contests.

American Music Festival

The Chartway Federal Credit Union American Music Festival along the Virginia Beach oceanfront is in its 26th year in 2019. This Labor Day weekend event takes place at the 5th Street Main Stage, 17th Street Park, 24th Street Park, and 31st Street Park stages. Past performers include Journey, Hall & Oats, Zac Brown Band, Kool & The Gang, and Boyz II Men.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon & 5K

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon draws roughly 10,000 participants annually for the Labor Day tradition. The course is flat and fast and takes you throughout the city from 14th Street and Pacific Avenue to the Virginia Beach oceanfront boardwalk. Not interested in a half marathon? Try the 5k run.
